It Started As A Teen!

I started reading the dictionary voraciously at about 13 or 14 yrs. old. I went to apply for my very first job at 14 (a summer job for teens).

As a young, African American living in the Detroit inner city, I was already nervous and I was interviewed by a Yuppie Caucasian man.  To my sheer delight, I got the job - on the spot!  He could not believe that I was 14 yrs. old due to the level of maturity that I had shown which also included a advanced, above college level vocabulary.

I felt like a million bucks and recognized that my studying the dictionary made me (at my very young age) stand apart from anyone else that I knew - even much older than me. Actually, I was quite often conversing with much older adults.

I'm not saying not to go to College, however, this is why I say that you do not have to have a college degree to make an impression - a very strong impression on anyone!   I'm much older now and I still do not have a degree, but everyone automatically presumes that I have a master’s degree, in something!   LOL!
