I fell in love with "grown up" words reading the dictionary in Detroit, Michigan where I got my first job at age 14 in an "office". I was hired on the spot because my interviewer was astounded that I was ONLY 14 YRS OLD! My vocabulary and ability to articulate was as mature and as intellectual as his (in his 30's).
I have since gone on to acquire virtually 95% of every job I have ever applied for in my life - many times "on the spot", or by the time I got home (a message would be waiting for me). I can help children have this same success.
I began teaching my own children their alphabet and how to read at 2 and 3 yrs. old. They have both excelled in school throughout their lives (Gifted and Talented and Dean's lists).
In 2011, I developed a powerful vocabulary program for underprivileged children (ages 8 - 12) at the UCA Charter School in Atlanta, GA (now closed due to lack of funding). The program was a monster success! Most of my little students learned words that many of their parents were unfamiliar with which is why I have added a parent component to my program.
I very quickly learned that my class impressed their teachers so much within the first week that several came to my class to learn my teaching method.
I was very proud to see that my students, as young as 3rd grade, had retained their knowledge and could recite the meanings of their vocabulary words. Also, they could use them in sentences many months later!
The AKC (Awesome Kids Club) program not only teaches advance vocabulary, it also includes various other activities that enhances academic growth and life skills for future success.
We maintain small class sizes focusing on individualized instruction to accommodate the different learning styles of our students. The AWESOME KIDS CLUB gives children a powerful, much needed "edge" in learning. They master comprehension, application and retention that equips them with thinking skills for lifelong learning.
